This September, as spring begins to bloom across Australia, we're proud to feature Ngemba artist Jo Wilson as our Artist of the Month. Based on Awabakal Country, Jo creates vibrant contemporary Aboriginal artworks inspired by Country, culture, connection, and the stories found in everyday moments. Jo's September collection reflects the energy and renewal that comes with the changing season. Through flowing pathways, vibrant colours, and symbols of gathering and connection, her designs celebrate the return of warmth, growth, and the beauty of slowing down to notice the world around us. At the heart of Jo's work is a deep connection to Country. Born on Ngunnawal Country in Canberra, she spent much of her life surrounded by family, community, and culture before eventually settling near the base of a mountain on Awabakal Country. The landscapes she explores, the changing seasons, and the stories held within the land continue to inspire her art and creative practice. Although she has been painting for just over six years, art has become an important part of Jo's journey. What began as a way to reconnect with herself and her Aboriginal culture has evolved into a thriving creative practice. Working primarily with acrylic paint, she embraces a slow, intuitive process, allowing each artwork to unfold naturally rather than chasing perfection. For Jo, inspiration is everywhere. It's found in the changing colours of the sky, the sounds of music, quiet moments in nature, and the connections that bring people together. Her paintings often celebrate the relationship between people, place, and spirit, capturing stories of gathering, renewal, and belonging. This collection draws inspiration from spring itself.
